The Nurse/Patient Relationship by Kate Loving Shenk copyright: all rights reserved http://www.nursingcareertransformation.com Visit Kate's Blog: http://nursehealers.blog.com The love that a nurse has for her patient is devoid entirely of co-dependency. It is a feeling that originates from the magnetic pull of love for the Beloved–-an urge that speaks to the calling that all dedicated nurses have regarding their profession. The calling that takes a lifetime to understand. First, a definition of co-dependency, found online at www.recovery-man.com: “Co-dependent Personality Disorder is a dysfunctional relationship with the self, characterized by living through or for another, attempts to control others, blaming others, a sense of victimization, attempts to “fix” others and an intense anxiety surrounding intimacy. People raised in dysfunctional families and partners and children of alcoholics and addicts tend to have great co-dependency issues. Most chemical dependency treatment centers now also offer treatment for co-dependency.” And it is appropriate to mention here that 35% of all nurses and other health care providers are untreated alcoholics, chemical dependents and co-dependents. The key is to heal from these wounds and to strive to become recovering co-dependents. Note within yourself how your nursing practice reflects issues of co-dependency in need of resolution. Then note how you can overcome these to rise to a level of unconditional love for your patients, and for all the people in your life including wives, husbands and children. First, tune into the energy of nature and feel the energy of the trees, the wildlife, flowers, clouds and sky. Choose a tree you are drawn to and visit it frequently. Feel its power and presence. Then tune into the beauty of the tree, and all the natural wonders in your exploration. Feel the beauty–and open your heart to it. Then transfer this beautiful essence to every patient you take care of. Transfer this beauty to everyone you happen to meet, today. Feel how this elevates your energy and vibrational field. Do this every day and thus strengthen your relationships with everything and everyone. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=- Kate Loving Shenk is a nurse, writer, healer, musician and the creator of the e-book called "Transform Your Nursing Career and Discover Your Calling and Destiny."
